Product photography for beginners can be difficult to perform if they don’t have the basic knowledge of photography. This blog is for those who are looking for services like product photography in Delhi or product photography in Gurgaon. Lots of people are buying SLRs these days, and we all want to make the most of our expensive new cameras. Unfortunately, as a beginner it can be a very difficult task. When you cut through all the terminology, though, photography is just as simple as it was fifty years ago, may be even simpler. Once you understand the basic elements of exposure and how they are dependent on each other, the rest of the details just fall into place. And there are only three things you need to learn and understand exposure. They are 1.) Aperture 2.) Shutter speed 3.) ISO First of all it comes to aperture. Aperture is the small opening in the lens that can be made smaller or larger to allow in more or less light. The opening is formed by several blades that slide over each other, so the opening is not perfectly circular but it is pretty close. If you’ll notice the side view of your camera you will figure out that aperture looks like a small door that opens and closes inside the lens. The aperture settings for the lens are called “f-stops”. The scale of f-stops goes in the format of something like f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/11, f/16, f/22 and so on. The relation between the values of f-stops and opening of lens of the camera are inversely proportional to each other. This means that the lower will be the values of f-stops the more will be the opening of the lens of the camera to allow light to fall on the sensor of the camera. This could be understood with an example like if you start with a value of f/2.8 it (lens opening) lets in a lot of light, if you switch to f/4 it lets in half as much light and if you switch to f/5.6 it lets in half as much light as f/4 which is a quarter of what we had at f/2.8. This was just the exposure part but aperture also controls something else that affects how the photos look and that is the “depth of field”. Depth of field is basically, how blurry your background and foreground are compared to what you are focusing on. If you use a large opening in your lens, the background will be very blurred. This is called as shallow depth of filed. If you use a small opening, which in turn is a larger f-stop value, the background will be less blurry. This exercise could be performed by those product photographers in Delhi, product photographers in Gurgaon or product photographers in Noida who are beginning there photography career in e-commerce photography or any type of creative photography. In this section we have only covered the aperture part, in the coming blogs we will discuss the remaining assets of photography such as shutter speed, ISO and other basics which are a must for every freelancer/full time product photographer, in fact, not just a product photographer but each and every photographer. In our previous blog we discussed about some basic product photography tips for beginners and covered only one part of it that is aperture and what is its role in e commerce photography or any kind of photography? Now, the second and most important technical terminology of photography is “Shutter speed unlike the previous one that is “aperture”, Shutter speed is even easier to understand. I think the most beginning product photographers in Delhi know that the shutter controls how long the sensor is exposed to light. It is as easy it gets, which means that the less time the shutter is open, the less light gets through. As, in case of aperture the values were in the form of f-stops, here in case of shutter speed are in terms of seconds and parts of seconds and the values are in the series of 1/250, 1/125, 1/60, 1/30, 1/15, 1/8, ¼, ½, 1, 2, 4, 8 and so on. Suppose if you set it for 1 second, the light reaches the sensor for a full second, the next setting up is a half-second, and half as much light gets the sensor. The next setting is quarter –second, and again, half as much light gets to the sensors as the previous setting, and so on. With each setting change, it gets cut in half and then in half and in half and so forth. And, of course if you change the setting in the opposite direction, you will get twice as much light. If you have been paying attention, you are probably starting to see a pattern here. And of course the shutter speed also makes a difference in how your photos look. Using a fast shutter speed will freeze the motion/action in your picture, but if you use a slow shutter speed, you will get blurry motion.
This was all about the technicality of shutter speed. If you are product photographers in Gurgaon or product photographers in Noida and are looking for taking pictures of your products/objects/subjects which are moving and are moving constantly. Then you should go for high shutter speeds to catch all the motion. And on the other hand if the product/subject is still then you should go for low shutter speed. There has to be a balance between the shutter speed and aperture in order to take beautiful pictures of your products. Somehow, the relation between aperture and shutter speed are inversely proportional to each other. If you are choosing high aperture values, which would result in a low opening of your camera lens and less light would get in the sensor. Therefore in order to balance that you will have to choose slow shutter speed. So, that you can allow more light to get in. If the balance between the two, that is the aperture and the shutter speed is not maintained, then your picture will either get under exposed or over exposed.
